I must say I was blissfully unaware that whenever someone searched for "Erotic Gorilla Stories" my website would come up.  I know this due to my lovely server that lists all of the search terms people used to come up with my website.  Thankfully, someone searched for "Erotic Gorilla Stories" right when I was hitting a brand new low in life.  That definitely brought me a much needed smile.

I've spent a few weeks agonizing over some issues and thinking phrases such as "When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Lemonade," and "Time to make doo doo into chocolate cake" and "Hey, it can't get any worse."  Thankfully, none of my friends have served me with these trite comments but with simply a nod of the head and "Oooh, that sucks."  You've got to appreciate friends who can truly understand the gravity of the situation and not try to sugar coat it for you.  Better to wallow for a few weeks than have a fat head full of hot air.

A good cry today brought me out of the wallowing and got me to thinking about the coping skills I used to recommend to my past therapy clients.   Here is a list in case you find yourself with a case of the doldrums:

*  Take a hot bath or cold swim
Sometimes a change in body temperature is all we need to refresh ourselves.  Light candles, play music, massage your mind with calming thoughts.  Picture your future a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.  Will you remember this time?  If so, will it hurt as much?  Envision yourself rising above the conflict or issue and imagine  the sense of peace that will accompany that time.

*  Give yourself a few minutes to curl up and feel
Be sober and truthful with yourself for as long as it takes for you to work out your sadness.  Cry it out, feel the pain, call upon your higher power to help you.  Even deep breathing with your eyes closed will help, and may bring you back some of those hours you spent awake worrying.

*Be creative
I believe it was Freud who once said depression is "creativity stifled." Cook a healthy meal from scratch, write a poem, draw or even trace.  Focused, physical activity that involves the mind will force your feelings to follow.  Often, these activities invoke something pleasurable.  Who doesn't love the small of fresh basil being chopped, or the smooth surface of paper before it has been written upon.  Savor the process, and don't think too much about making the finished project perfect.  The result isn't what counts.

* Let It Go
Take a pen and draw or write out the things you have on your mind.  List them all, whether they be something drastic like being thousands of dollars in debt or something minimal like you want to spend more time with your friends and less time working.  Then rip up that list or burn it. The things that are most important to you will stick to your mind, and eventually you will give yourself the freedom to do them.  The rest will happen in time.

*Remind yourself of the important things
Your children, your pet, your friends, your family.  All  of them are there for you, whether you want to share your troubles with them or not.  They're going to love you no matter what.  Even the crappy ones.  Why?  Because crappy friends and family loooove a miserable sob story and will exhibit feelings of glee when you tell them, which will make your day because you've made someone happy.  That's what makes crappy friends and family good to have around. Once in a while.

And if all else fails, you can always do a web search for "Erotic Gorilla Stories."

Stay happy, fellow readers.

Warmly,
Liz
