Welcome Avid Readers! I am so excited to have J. Lilley here at The Visionary Lounge to share her latest release with us. J. Lilley, welcome! Could you kindly tell us more about the Shalean Moon Series, your widely anticipated YA Paranormal novels? Hi, My name is J. Lilley, and I'm really excited about my first ever YA books, which are published on June 1st, from Lycaon Press. Lycaon is a new publisher, and my book will be their first… and in some ways their second and third. Because the print book has the first three stories in it, on ebook, it's book one. Where did the idea for this series come from? From a friend, who was trying, unsuccessfully to find a new shifter book for her daughter's fourteenth birthday. She was bemoaning the fact there was nothing new, nothing different she could buy. So I, who had never even remotely thought about writing YA said, "Oh I'll write one for her!" I did add hastily, "just a short one.' I knew I had to write shifters, and so asked Doris my friend, what animal was her daughter Rach's favorite. The answer was a leopard. Now I had my animal. There was no contest as to where I was going to set my story. In the wonderful Trossachs, in central Scotland. A place of mystical doings, of fairies and well… Shaleans now it seems. The beautiful countryside was my inspiration for the settings, anyone who reads the books will recognize houses, lochs, rocks and hills. But strangely they won't be where they would expect them to be. I've taken liberties with the landscape! Although anyone watching the sun set over the loch, or seeing the snow on the top of the Ben surely won't mind my deception. That first short 12k story was a hit. Rach loved it, and was pleased the heroine had the same name as her. And as far as I thought, that was that. Until the day I idly asked a publisher if he knew any YA publishing houses, as I had a short story… He did, he asked to read it, then told me he was thinking of starting a YA Publishing house. He loved the story…but… Why is that such a little word with a big meaning? But! His but was he wanted it twice as long, and thought there should be a series. I got the news, that the editor loved the idea as well, via Doris, by text as I was on holiday, with no net! So Shalean Moon was born. At first ewe went to four books, then it was "could you add a book about …"? And after that it was could I add a book about… I made myself stop then! Can you give us a summary of each book in the series? Book one; Discovered is about Rach, and the discovery she makes when she moves to Scotland with her dad. Here's the blurb… When Rach moved to Scotland she knew there would be changes. She hadn't expected them to be quite so dramatic. Not only was there a new house, new school and new friends, there was also a secret to discover. Brios Parde was a Patriarch in waiting. When the powerful leopard shifter senses a new Shalean he is amazed to discover it's the new girl. All his senses tell him Rach will be important to him. However the Rogues try to destroy the budding relationship. Will Rach decide to side with Brios or help stage an uprising? And that's just book one. The series tells of all the problems facing Shalea, and how the young generation have to work together to overcome evil. In future book we see how each of the friends overcome their adversities. Book 2, Renounced, is Leira and Donny's story Book 3, Accepted, tells of Andy and Sam, one Shalean and one human, and how the rogues try to separate them These three books are in one print edition, entitled Beginnings. The ebooks come out the first Friday of each month, from June 1st. The final three books, United, Threatened and Resolved, follow the same format, starting in September. Here we find just what else is happening and how everything is resolved. Tell us more about the setting where the story takes place. I live in that gorgeous part of Scotland I write about in these books. So my inspiration is on my doorstep. I'm lucky enough to walk in the forest most days, my friend I walk with is used to me stopping, taking photos and muttering "Armin Stone," or "Sam's scree." I'm lucky to have Rach and her siblings, and teenage friends here in Scotland to ask what is, who would, how is, about anything I'm not sure about. I know we'll have problems. Teenspeak can change from one side of the country to the other let alone from continent to continent, but at least I know (I hope) that it's correct in some place on the globe! So what's next? I'm working on a Scottish Trilogy with another Scottish Author, we're about ready to submit, so fingers crossed. I was asked if I thought will this be the end of Shalea? Somehow, I don't think so.
